Please support Mayor Stoney’s budget. Significant investments in our schools and our roads are long overdue.
                                         
Fully funding RPS’ strategic plan, including raises for teachers, additional mental health staff, updated curricula, upgraded technology and additional resources for maintenance will demonstrate our commitment to give Richmond’s students the education they deserve. 
                                         
Improving our roads and increasing access to GRTC are two additional priorities that need to be addressed.  We cannot continue to just patch potholes when entire sections of roads need to be repaved, and by expanding the GRTC routes we will enable people to more easily access employment, health services, educational opportunities and stores.
                                         
It’s time we make Richmond a great place to live for all its citizens. While the Mayor’s budget includes tough decisions, we can no longer kick the can down the road on these key initiatives. Please vote in favor of the Mayor’s budget.

Making Long-Overdue Investments in Our Schools

Mayor Stoney’s budget provides $18.5 million to fully fund the Richmond Public Schools (RPS) strategic plan—Dreams4RPS—and provides $19 million to fully fund RPS’ maintenance needs. This budget will:

Provide an equitable literacy plan.
Restructure English and math curricula.
Increase the number of school counselors and nurses.
Improve performance of the RPS bus system.
Increase salaries for teachers and support staff.

Paving Roads to Strengthen Communities

73% of Richmond residents agree, our streets could use improvement. And the facts support that sentiment—65% of our roads are in poor condition, needing repair or repaving. That’s over $100 million in street repair and maintenance needs. Mayor Stoney’s proposed budget provides new funding for Richmond DPW so that we can stop playing “whack-a-mole” with potholes in our roads.
